Restrictions

On 1 April 2020, Joint Base Langley-Eustis announced Restricted Access. For details see https://www.jble.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/2131243/jble-announces-restrictions-to-base-access/

03/6/20: In our local area, retirees and family members are allowed on Langley AFB and Ft Eustis only on Mondays and Tuesdays. Eustis commissary will now be open on Mondays so we have two shopping days each week.  My sources for the base access are the Ft Eustis and Langley Facebook pages. Source for access to the commissary is the DeCA website.  There are a few exceptions for retirees to access the military installation on other days of the week (medical appointments, if you’re currently employed on base, etc.).  Friends in other locales, please check your installations before heading out.

Breaking news today:  Service members will be instructed to start wearing face coverings in public in the latest effort to limit the spread of the deadly coronavirus, Defense Secretary Mark Esper said in in a military-wide memo issued Sunday afternoon.

DoD will not issue masks specifically for this and the memo says individuals should make their own face coverings.

“Effective immediately, to the extent practical, all individuals on DoD property, installations, and facilities will wear cloth face coverings when they cannot maintain six feet of social distance in public areas or work centers (this does not include in a Service member’s or Service family member’s personal residence on a military installation),” according to the memo. This includes all:

*Military Personnel

*DoD Civilian Employees

*Family Members

*DoD Contractors

*All other individuals on DoD property, installations, and facilities

Secretary Esper, in an interview with ABC’s This Week, said the military would issue specific guidance by the end of the weekend to instruct commanders on when the masks should be worn.
