      KATHLEEN SCHNEPF Maj USAFR Ret.

MAJ Kathy Schnepf’s (USAFR) military career began in 1976, when she enlisted in the United States Army.  She spent 10 years working as a Clinical Specialist in the Army and Reserves.  Assignments included Brooke Army Medical Center, the Presidio of San Francisco, 5th General Hospital in Germany and 819 Station Hospital in CT (as a Reservist while she attended the University of CT’s nursing program).  She attained the rank of SFC (E-7) prior to graduation from UCONN.  With her nursing degree in hand, she joined her husband as a Commissioned Officer in the Air Force.
Kathy spent 3 years as an Obstetrical Nurse at Edwards AFB, CA (active duty) where she helped deliver many babies, as well as instrumental in the planning and training of hospital personnel. She transferred to the AF Reserves after having her own baby; assignments included Wright Patterson AFB, March AFB, Andrews AFB and Westover ARB.   Duties at each base focused on mission medical readiness combining hospital experience and combat medicine.  As she advanced through the ranks, and pursued professional development, her duties expanded to include positions in Education and Staff Development, as well as Nurse Supervisor and acting Chief Nurse on Annual Tours.  Her final Annual Tour to Yakota AFB, Japan was a culmination of all her Reserve training/experiences, where she augmented active-duty staff in the Medical Evacuation of hundreds of patients (15 live missions) through their Air Staging Facility.
Upon retirement in 2001 as a Major, Kathy continued to work as a Nurse in the areas of Education, Geriatrics, Hospice and most recently Riverside Rehabilitation.  Since joining VIPMOAA, she has attended monthly meetings (including Board meetings to “learn the ropes”) and most recently CAST, with hopes of assisting members with support in their times of need.
