Yorktown Battlefield - In the fall of 1781, General George Washington along with the allied American and French forces, attacked General Charles Lord Cornwallis’s British army here at Yorktown.  On Oct 19th Cornwallis surrendered, thus ending the war and ensuring independence for the 13 colonies.
